How I Almost Lost My Life – And Found My Calling

Educational Series Q&A

“Cliffhanger” Literally!

In the last note, I told the story of how the AG of Connecticut effectively ended my live events business. Go here to catch up if you missed it…

The US desert is like no place else. So I went to Moab, Utah to climb rocks… enjoy some solitude… get my head together… and figure out my next move.

What happened there set me one the path to creating Rebel Capitalist Pro

Here’s how I nearly lost my life – and ended up finding my calling…

I’m no professional, but I love rock climbing. So, I set out to climb a giant rock face high above Arches National Park.

In no time at all, I found myself stuck. At first, I was annoyed.

But when I couldn’t get to the top safely, I began to realize I was in trouble.

The harder I tried to go upward, the more I slipped down.

I was sliding toward the edge of a cliff with a 1,000-foot drop.

It makes my palms sweat every time I retell this story.

I went back the way I came. No luck.

I only slid closer to the edge – and my death.

Every time I moved, I slipped a little further toward the edge of the cliff.

By this time, I was freaking out. I knew this was the end.

I couldn’t get back to safety – and every move I made pulled me closer to the precipice.

So finally, I just found a handhold and clung on for dear life.

In desperation, I began yelling for help.

For what seemed like hours, all I heard was the echo of my own voice.

There I was in the middle of the desert. No one was coming to save me.

I knew I was done for. My arm was shaking. I couldn’t hold on much longer.

And that’s when I heard a man calling out somewhere far below.

He yelled up, telling me to hang on and that he was coming.

An agonizing while later – with my strength almost gone and my arm completely numb – I heard someone nailing an anchor into the rock above me.

My savior slid down the rock face and pulled me to safety – right as my arm finally gave out.

This was as close as I have ever come to dying.

But the best part of the story came after…

I told him, “You absolutely saved my life” – offering to buy him a beer later at the Moab Brewery.

Turned out, he didn’t show up that night.

But as I reflected on what happened – and how close I had come to dying…

I did the only thing I could do…

I went to an ATM and took out as much money as I could… put it in a bag… and left it with his buddy at the brewery.

I was in pretty rough shape financially – having just lost my business thanks to a corrupt AG.

But I knew I owed this guy my life.

And then something magical happened…

A few months later, the guy who rescued me (whose name I can’t recall), sent me a long email

In it, I read how he and his girlfriend had lost their jobs and had been about to get thrown out on the street.

The money I left him allowed them to make rent.

Something about his gratitude for my little action – when I was the one who should still be thanking him for saving me – touched me deeply.

That event and his email changed the way I looked at life – especially at how life seems to reward people who give the most.

Look…

Life will kick you while you’re down. Everyone goes through that at some point.

I could’ve given up after losing my business to a corrupt AG.

After all, I had the perfect excuse.

What happened to me wasn’t fair. I was bitter and felt like a victim.

But nearly losing my life… being rescued when I should have died… and then impacting someone else’s life by giving what I could…

Changed my perspective.

I called my pals… told them I had an idea for making back everything I had lost… and then…

I got to work.
